“Wike’s End Game Is to Stop PDP From Producing Jonathan or Obi in 2027” – Baba Yusuf

Baba Yusuf, political strategist and Group CEO of Global Investment and Trade Company, has alleged that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is deliberately working to destabilise the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the build-up to the 2027 elections. Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Friday, Yusuf claimed that Wike’s goal is to weaken the party to prevent it from fielding strong presidential contenders such as former President Goodluck Jonathan or former Labour Party flagbearer Peter Obi.

Yusuf argued that Wike’s influence in the PDP has grown unchecked, blaming party leaders for allowing him to consolidate control. He described Wike’s actions as a “spoiler game” designed to keep the PDP unstable and incapable of producing a credible candidate who could challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2027.

“The end game for Minister Nyesom Wike is to ensure that the PDP is not stable enough to bring a credible candidate, whether it is Peter Obi or former President Goodluck Jonathan,” Yusuf said. He added that either of the two figures would pose a formidable threat to the APC if they were to emerge as PDP’s candidate.

According to Yusuf, the party’s failure to prevent one individual from holding so much sway, including in matters of funding, has left it vulnerable. He warned that the PDP elders had effectively boxed themselves into a corner, allowing Wike to dictate the direction of the party as the next general elections draw closer.
