Wike’s Ally, Senator Philip Aduda, Resigns from PDP, Cites Reasons

Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda, a close ally of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing persistent internal conflicts within the party as his reason for leaving.

The former Senate Minority Leader submitted his resignation in a letter addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in Karu Ward, Abuja, dated March 17, 2026. In the letter, Aduda wrote:

“I write to formally notify you of my resignation as a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect due to the crisis in the party.”

Aduda, who represented the FCT in the National Assembly across three Senate terms and previously served in the House of Representatives for AMAC/Bwari from 2003 to 2011, acknowledged the role of the PDP in his political career.

“I remain grateful for the opportunity the party gave me to serve in various elective positions in our nation,” he added.

His resignation comes amid ongoing leadership disputes and factional tensions within the PDP nationwide as the party prepares for the 2027 elections. Aduda has long been regarded as the face of the PDP in the FCT, and his departure represents a significant setback for the party in the territory.

Although he did not specify his next political move, speculation is mounting that Aduda may join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and seek the party’s nomination to contest the FCT seat in the 2027 general elections.
