“Wike Thinks Abuja Is Port Harcourt, Where He Was a Local Champion” – Aisha Yesufu

Prominent socio-political activist Aisha Yesufu has criticized Nyesom Wike, former governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for his approach to governance in Abuja. Yesufu referred to Wike as a “village champion,” accusing him of mistaking Abuja for Port Harcourt, where he once held significant sway.

“Wike thinks Abuja is Port Harcourt, where he was a local champion and everyone shook at the mention of his name!” Yesufu wrote on the social media platform X.

The comments come in the wake of backlash against Wike for the demolition of the Ruga community in Abuja. Social critic Martins Ortse, known online as VeryDarkMan, has also condemned Wike’s actions, arguing that displacing over 10,000 people could exacerbate security challenges in the capital.

Ortse called on Wike to prioritize relocating affected residents, describing the demolitions as insensitive.

Wike, through the task force “Operation Sweep,” ordered the demolitions as part of an initiative to clear perceived nuisances and improve security in the FCT. He has defended the move, stating that it is necessary to sanitize and secure the capital city.

The controversial demolitions have sparked widespread debate, with many questioning the government’s approach to urban management and the treatment of displaced residents.
