Aisha Yesufu Leaves ADC for NDC, Declares FCT Senate Bid for 2027
Activist Aisha Yesufu has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), where she has declared her intention to run for the Federal Capital Territory senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement shared on Wednesday via her X account, Yesufu said her decision followed what she described as a clearer perspective on the country’s direction. She also cited her continued political alignment with Peter Obi, who recently moved to the NDC.
She said her earlier support for Obi influenced her initial move to the ADC, adding that her latest defection reflects a continuation of that position. According to her, joining the NDC aligns with her commitment to a political vision she associates with Obi’s leadership.
Yesufu confirmed that her move to the NDC is tied to her candidacy for the FCT senatorial seat. She stated that she is entering the party not only as a member but as an aspirant in the upcoming election cycle.
Commenting on her exit from the ADC, Yesufu described the transition as orderly, noting that she had completed her responsibilities within the party. She expressed appreciation for the roles she held and the colleagues she worked with during her time there.
