Why Peter Obi’s Banking Associates Avoid Him in Public – Aide
Moses Paul, an aide to Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has alleged that several of Obi’s former associates in the banking sector are avoiding him in public due to fear of retribution from President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking in an interview with Rudolf Okonkwo on 90MinutesAfrica, Paul recounted an incident in Kigali, Rwanda, where top Nigerian business figures, including Alhaji Aliko Dangote, gathered for a conference. He claimed that bankers who were once close to Obi deliberately avoided him, fearing government backlash.
“You will not believe that people who were friends with Peter Obi in the banking sector were dodging and avoiding being seen with him because of fear of retribution from the Tinubu government against them or their businesses,” Paul said. “It’s shocking that in the 21st century, people are afraid to be seen with an opposition leader because of fear of what the government of the day will do. This shouldn’t be coming from a country like Nigeria that is the only future of the black man on the face of the earth.”
Paul also addressed comments by Felix Morka, spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC), who recently described Obi as a “prophet of doom” and dismissed his record as a former governor. He countered these remarks, stating that Obi’s achievements in Anambra State are well-documented, particularly in education.
“Since the achievements of Peter Obi as a governor are easily verifiable, Mr. Morka’s remarks that Peter Obi doesn’t have a record of performance as governor are completely false,” Paul said. “During Peter Obi’s tenure as governor of Anambra State, the data shows that he took education from the 27th to the 1st position in the country. That was as a result of his unprecedented investment.”
