“We Will Continue to Relocate Destitutes to Their Home States,” Lagos State Govt Affirms
In a bid to address visible security risks and other concerns, the Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to relocating destitute individuals to their respective states of origin. This decision comes amidst recent controversy surrounding the deportation of Osun State indigenes, prompting reactions from various quarters.
According to reports, the state government clarified that while some individuals were relocated to Osun and other states upon their request for assistance to return home, the deportation of Osun State youths was not authorized by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
In response to the incident, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, expressed condemnation, emphasizing that Governor Sanwo-Olu denied authorizing such actions. Governor Adeleke further engaged with his counterpart in Lagos, urging immediate investigation and resolution of the matter.
In a statement issued by Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, reassurances were made regarding surveillance efforts to track the deported youths and ensure their well-being.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Government disclosed that out of 450 individuals rescued over the weekend, 79 were admitted to government facilities for rehabilitation due to signs of illness. Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, reiterated the government’s stance on the relocation exercise, emphasizing its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents.
