Lawyer Drops Suit After Sanwo-Olu Unblocks Him on X
A Lagos-based lawyer, Festus Ogun, says he will withdraw the lawsuit he filed against Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu after the governor unblocked him on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Ogun had sued Sanwo-Olu for allegedly violating his right to freedom of expression by restricting him on the platform. However, following a meeting at Lagos House, Marina, on Friday, the lawyer confirmed that the governor assured him of the unblocking and instructed his media aides to implement it.
“Before going for the meeting, I informed some sections of the media and went with my lawyer,” Ogun told journalists. “We’ve made the bold statement already. The matter has become academic. The major objective was for me to be unblocked. Now that I have been unblocked, it makes the struggle a bit personal if I proceed.”
He later announced on Facebook that the restriction had been lifted. “Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has unblocked me on X (Twitter). I met briefly with him yesterday at Lagos House Marina, on his invitation, to amicably resolve my complaint of human rights violations. We will continue to hold authorities accountable, regardless. Aluta continua,” he wrote.
