Iwuanyanwu Raises Alarm: Alleges Death Threats and Plot to Burn Residence
Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has sounded the alarm, claiming there’s a credible threat to his life and a sinister plot to set his residence ablaze. In a press briefing held at the Ohanaeze Ndigbo secretariat in Enugu, Chief Iwuanyanwu accused certain individuals within the Igbo community of orchestrating these threats due to his leadership position.
The veteran leader, addressing reporters on Wednesday evening, revealed the gravity of the situation, citing past incidents involving his predecessors. He alleged that similar groups had been responsible for the demise of Prof George Obiozor and attempted attacks on former president general Nnia Nwodo. According to Chief Iwuanyanwu, these aggressors not only targeted his predecessors but also engaged in the burning of their homes, as was the case with Prof Obiozor’s village residence.
Expressing his dismay over the situation, Chief Iwuanyanwu highlighted the tragic fate of past leaders within the Ohanaeze Ndigbo community, including late Pro Joe Irukwu, who faced baseless allegations until his passing. He lamented the trend of internal strife within the Igbo leadership, emphasizing the need for unity rather than internal division.
Addressing viral audio recordings suggesting an apology from Ohanaeze Ndigbo for events surrounding the January 15, 1966 coup, Chief Iwuanyanwu vehemently debunked the claims, reaffirming his commitment to serving the Igbo community.
In the face of these threats, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu remains resolute in his dedication to the welfare and advancement of Ndigbo, vowing not to yield to intimidation tactics from anti-Igbo elements.
