Ohanaeze Ndigbo Reactivates Youth Wing, Appoints Okpalaezeukwu as Acting Leader
The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has breathed new life into its youth wing, appointing Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu as the Acting National Youth Leader. This appointment came following a resolution of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the group and was announced by the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.
Dr. Chiedozie Alex Ogbonnia, the National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, conveyed this appointment in a press release on Friday. Okpalaezeukwu’s selection was based on his exemplary character and qualities.
“The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Engr. Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, OFR, MFR, CFR (Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo) has reactivated the Youth Wing of the socio-cultural body with the appointment of Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu as the Acting National Youth Leader,” the statement read.
The decision was reached during a crucial meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing in Owerri, Imo State, on Wednesday, August 30, 2023. The youth cited Okpalaezeukwu’s capacity, vision, leadership qualities, and his ability to manage diverse interests among the youth as key factors behind his appointment.
However, it was noted that Okpalaezeukwu’s position is provisional, “pending the due process for a substantive National Youth Leader from Ebonyi State.”
A statement from Mazi Chika Art Adiele, National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing, emphasized a commitment to end the disruptive “Sit at Home” protests in the South East of Nigeria. They expressed concern over the insecurity and economic disruptions in Igbo land.
The Acting National Youth Leader praised the efforts of the South East Governors, particularly Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, in addressing these challenges. He vowed to work tirelessly until peace and security are restored not only in the South East but also across Nigeria.
The statement also commended Chief Iwuanyanwu’s impactful initiatives in various sectors since assuming office as the President General. These include advocating for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, building relationships with Ohanaeze Governors and Igbo business leaders, and fostering ties with the Igbo diaspora.
Furthermore, the Youth Wing recognized Chief Iwuanyanwu’s dedication to reinvigorating the Women Wing of Ohanaeze, among other accomplishments. Despite being in office for less than four months, Chief Iwuanyanwu has held numerous meetings with the NEC of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, earning him a vote of confidence from the Youth Wing.
In closing, they expressed their hope that Chief Iwuanyanwu’s vision for the Igbo people would be realized, wishing him continued strength and success in his endeavors.
