“We Bought a Newborn Baby for N2 Million” – Women Confess in Delta State
The Delta State Police Command has arrested two women who allegedly purchased a newborn baby boy for N2 million from a baby factory in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The arrest occurred as the women were en route to deliver the infant to a buyer in Delta State.
On October 1, 2024, around 6:30 PM, a tricycle rider, who overheard a conversation between the women, took swift action. Instead of following the agreed route, he headed to the Ekpan police station to report the suspicious activity.
According to Bright Edafe, spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command and a Superintendent of Police, the incident unfolded when four women boarded the tricycle. Upon reaching the Effurun Roundabout, two women disembarked, one of whom handed a newborn baby boy to the remaining women while discussing payment details.
“The tricycle rider smartly diverted the two women, Tessi Ikechukwu and Lauretta Akomen, along with the newborn baby, to Ekpan Police Station, where they were arrested,” Edafe stated.
Preliminary investigations revealed that 38-year-old Lauretta Akomen had purchased the baby from a traditional home in Port Harcourt, known for harboring teenage girls and facilitating sexual encounters that result in pregnancies. These babies are then sold to individuals seeking children. Akomen disclosed that she had taken medication to simulate pregnancy and facilitate the illegal transaction.
The investigation led authorities to a woman named Gloria, who is believed to have acted as an intermediary between Akomen and the baby factory.
Both suspects are currently in police custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend additional accomplices involved in this disturbing case.
