“We are ready to work with any party interested in defeating the APC, but we haven’t taken a decision on any coalition yet” – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed reports claiming it has instructed its members to join a newly formed political coalition aimed at unseating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The party clarified that it has not taken an official stance on the coalition and is currently focused on consolidating internal unity and preparing for its upcoming national convention.

In a statement released on Thursday by the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the party emphasized that while it remains open to collaborating with other political groups ahead of the 2027 general elections, no directive has been issued for its members to join any coalition.

“The attention of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been drawn to a misrepresenting report in a section of the social media claiming that the PDP had directed its members to join the Coalition Group,” Ologunagba said. “For the avoidance of doubt, the PDP has not taken any official position on the issue of coalition.”

He reiterated that the PDP’s current priority is to build on the unity it has achieved, strengthen its internal structures, and prepare to reclaim power in 2027. Ologunagba also noted that the party’s forthcoming convention is a critical step in revitalizing the PDP and positioning it as a credible alternative to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Despite not committing to any alliance at this stage, the PDP expressed willingness to engage with like-minded Nigerians and parties in the future to “rescue the nation from the stranglehold of the rudderless and insensitive APC-led administration.”

The party concluded by thanking Nigerians for their continued support and reaffirmed its commitment to returning to its winning ways ahead of the next general elections.
