Two UNICAL Final-Year Students Die in Road Crash on Way to Convocation
Two final-year students of the University of Calabar lost their lives in a road traffic accident in Cross River State while traveling to attend their graduation ceremony.
The victims, identified as Gloria Ajor and Godwin Benjamin, were among passengers in a Toyota Sienna bus departing from Bekwarra Local Government Area to Calabar. The incident occurred on Thursday night, April 9, 2026.
The students were reportedly on their way to participate in the institution’s 38th convocation ceremony scheduled for April 10.
Eyewitness accounts shared on social media indicated that the crash claimed multiple lives, while several others sustained injuries of varying severity. The exact number of casualties has not been officially confirmed.
Residents and passersby were said to have responded quickly to the scene, assisting in the evacuation of injured passengers to nearby health facilities for treatment.
Family sources confirmed that Gloria Ajor was buried on Saturday, April 11, 2026.
