New COVID Case in Cross River: 10 Contacts Identified, Quarantined
The Cross River State Government has identified and isolated 10 individuals who had contact with a foreign national recently confirmed to have COVID-19.
State epidemiologist, Dr. Inyang Ekpenyong, said the individuals were traced during follow-up investigations by health officials. The contacts were linked to the infected individual’s workplace in Akamkpa Local Government Area.
According to her, all 10 persons have been restricted to their homes to limit potential transmission. She added that the index patient is receiving care at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital and is responding to treatment.
Ekpenyong also stressed that COVID-19 has not been eradicated globally and urged residents to maintain preventive habits, including regular hand hygiene, mask use, and adherence to public health guidance.
Earlier in the week, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Egbe Ayuk, confirmed the re-emergence of the virus in the state. He said response systems had been activated to contain the situation and prevent wider spread.
Ayuk noted that the movement of infected persons across borders remains a risk factor but maintained that the situation is under control.
