Two Reps, One State Assembly Member Dump Labour Party for PDP in Enugu

The Labour Party in Enugu State has suffered a significant setback as three of its elected representatives have officially defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Among them are two members of the House of Representatives and one member of the Enugu State House of Assembly.

Hon. Dennis Agbo, representing Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency and a two-term federal lawmaker, was the first to announce his defection on Wednesday. He cited the exceptional performance of Governor Peter Mbah, internal divisions within the Labour Party, and pressure from his constituents as key reasons for his decision. According to Agbo, Governor Mbah’s leadership has been “nothing short of outstanding,” and aligning with the PDP would allow for better collaboration and development in his constituency.

On Thursday, Hon. Chidi Obetta, representing Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency and serving his first term in the House of Representatives, followed suit by also leaving the Labour Party. He was joined by Hon. Malachi Okey Onyechi of the Nsukka West State Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, who similarly announced his move to the PDP.

The defections were confirmed by Hon. Dan Nwomeh, media aide to Governor Peter Mbah, who stated that all three lawmakers had officially rejoined the PDP at the party’s state headquarters.
