Tragic Road Accident Claims 19 Lives on Oyo-Ogbomoso Expressway
Nineteen lives were lost in a devastating road accident on Sunday along the Oyo-Ogbomoso expressway, specifically at Kilometre 3, Sabo area.
The incident involved a Sokoto-bound white Toyota HIACE 18-seater bus with registration number NTT 522 ZY and a black Toyota salon car. Sadly, the victims succumbed to their injuries at the scene, leaving only one survivor who is currently undergoing medical treatment at Opabode Hospital in Oyo.
Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Joshua Adekanye, confirmed the tragic event, attributing it to a blatant disregard for traffic laws.
Adekanye stated, “The incident involved a Sokoto-bound commercial bus and a Corolla salon car. It happened at 7:45 pm at Kilometre 3, Sabo area along Oyo-Ogbomoso expressway. Out of the 20 passengers on board the two affected vehicles, 19 died on the spot while the survivor is receiving medical attention at the neighborhood hospital.”
He further added, “The corpses of the victims have been deposited at the General Hospital Oyo. The drivers of the two vehicles were among the victims who died on the spot. The deceased driver of the Toyota HIACE was on the wrong lane to Oyo and collided with the Toyota Corolla salon car.”
In light of this tragic event, Adekanye urged all road users to adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations, emphasizing the importance of caution on the roads to prevent such avoidable accidents in the future.
