Bobrisky Treated Like Any Other Inmate at Ikoyi Custodial Centre, Says NCS Officials
Controversial figure Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, is currently serving a six-month prison sentence at the Ikoyi Custodial Centre for naira abuse, according to officials from the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS).
The sentencing, handed down by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos on April 12, 2024, aims to serve as a deterrent to others engaging in similar offenses.
Despite his notoriety, Bobrisky is reportedly being treated like any other inmate within the facility. Speaking anonymously, a senior official at the center disclosed that Bobrisky underwent standard admission procedures, including a physical examination, which revealed no gender realignment or alterations to genital organs.
The official emphasized, “Bobrisky made a public declaration that he was male, and court proceedings confirm this. Every inmate undergoes examination upon admission, and in Bobrisky’s case, no alteration of gender or genital organs was found.”
Following the examination, Bobrisky was allocated a cell and adheres to the same regulations as other inmates, including attending classes, meals, and lights-out time. The official clarified that Bobrisky is not receiving preferential treatment or protection from other inmates, emphasizing the center’s stance against any form of abuse.
The official added, “In a male prison, homosexuality is outlawed, and any attempt to violate Bobrisky or any other inmate will be met with legal consequences.”
Rotimi Oladokun, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Command of the NCS, declined to comment on the matter.
Bobrisky’s presence in the custodial center has sparked mixed reactions, with some questioning the fairness of his treatment and others applauding the impartiality of the corrections system.
