How Bobrisky Smuggled N35m into Kirikiri, Bribed His Way to Luxury Outside Prison – Baale
New revelations have surfaced regarding how crossdresser Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, allegedly smuggled N35 million into the Kirikiri custodial facility and used it to bribe prison officials, securing a comfortable stay in an apartment outside the prison. The Baale of Kirikiri, Chief Babalola Shabi, widely known as the “no-nonsense Baale,” provided these details during a town hall meeting organized by the Lagos Police Command to celebrate National Police Day.
According to Chief Shabi, Bobrisky used eight Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards to withdraw large sums of money from Point of Sale (POS) vendors in the Kirikiri community. The money was then used to bribe officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and arrange for Bobrisky to live in an apartment outside the prison. This account contradicts the findings of a probe panel set up by the National Assembly, which claimed Bobrisky served his jail term in the custodial facility but was given preferential treatment.
Chief Shabi, who played a significant role in exposing the scheme, revealed that the bribery operation involved prison officials who sourced the money from the local POS vendors. Shabi said he was instrumental in uncovering the crime when he summoned all POS operators in the community to his palace. There, he coordinated with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to round up the operators. The EFCC was then able to trace the transactions and retrieve the codes used to withdraw the N35 million.
Shabi explained that, while it was unclear how the ATM cards made their way into the prison, it was evident that the bribery process was well-organized and involved several corrupt officials. The Baale noted that the house where Bobrisky allegedly stayed during his time outside the prison had been located and demolished by the authorities. Furthermore, the prison officials who facilitated the bribery were suspended and are still under investigation.
“It is the work of the devil and the love of money,” Shabi said. “You know, the way he smuggled the ATM cards into the facility is still a mystery. But through the efforts of the community, we were able to uncover how N35 million was raised and used. I personally called all the POS operators to my palace, and we coordinated with the EFCC. That’s how they were able to track the transactions and find the codes.”
The Baale confirmed that Bobrisky did not serve his time in the facility as expected, adding that he had been living in comfort outside the prison walls, with the full knowledge and assistance of corrupt prison officials. Shabi emphasized that he took it upon himself to see the matter through, working with both the Department of State Services (DSS) and the EFCC to ensure the truth was uncovered.
“I followed the matter to the end,” Shabi said. “I was first invited by the DSS, where I shared everything I knew. The EFCC also contacted me, and I assisted them in every way I could. We identified the house where Bobrisky stayed, and it was demolished. All the officials involved have been suspended, and they remain suspended to this day.”
