Tragic Assassination Shakes Imo State as Gunmen Target Federal Poly Registrar

In a horrifying incident that has sent shockwaves through Imo State, Innocent Obi, the Deputy Registrar of Federal Polytechnic, Uwana, Ebonyi State, has been brutally assassinated by unidentified gunmen. The assailants, suspected to be operating under the guise of Biafra agitators, launched a deadly attack on Obi within the Ezeala/Ezike autonomous community in Umuezeala, Ehime Mbano Local Government Area.

Obi, affectionately known as “Onye Army” in the local community, had a prior military career before taking on his role at Federal Polytechnic Uwana. He had been a candidate for the position of substantive registrar at the institution before his tragic and untimely demise. The attackers, numbering more than six and disguised in military and police uniforms, raided Obi’s residence at around 10 p.m., sending shockwaves of panic and grief throughout the community.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants forcibly entered Obi’s home, wielding machetes and axes, inflicting fatal injuries upon him. The victim’s cries for help drew the attention of villagers, but the assailants, operating on three motorcycles, began firing shots into the air, effectively preventing any immediate rescue efforts.

The intensity of the gunfire forced the onlookers to retreat, and the assailants ultimately abducted Obi, leaving behind a gruesome scene with bloodstains covering his house. Desperate to locate Obi, villagers organized a search party the following day, which ultimately led them to a shocking discovery.

Late Sunday afternoon, the search party received information about a decomposing corpse found between Ehime Mbano and Ahiazu Mbaise. Upon arriving at the scene, the horrifying truth became evident: the deceased was none other than Dee Onye Army, who had been ruthlessly butchered beyond recognition.

The community remembers Dee Onye Army as a dedicated individual who ensured that local youth had opportunities for education, helping many secure admission to the school he served. He lived a modest and unassuming life, and it was only recently that he had begun constructing his home in the village, a project tragically cut short before completion.

This heart-wrenching incident has left the community in mourning, and the identity and motives of the assailants remain under investigation as the community grapples with the loss of a beloved figure.
