“Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Is a Scam,” Says Rauf Aregbesola
Rauf Aregbesola, national secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has criticised the “renewed hope” agenda of Bola Tinubu, describing it as a “scam.”
Aregbesola made the remarks on Tuesday during the ADC national convention in Abuja. He argued that nearly three years into the administration, the promises associated with the agenda have not translated into tangible outcomes.
According to the former Osun State governor, the continued emphasis on “renewed hope” without visible results raises concerns about the administration’s performance. He said the government risks repeating the slogan indefinitely without delivering measurable progress.
Aregbesola cited economic and social indicators to support his position. He claimed that the number of out-of-school children has increased from 18.3 million to 20 million, while approximately 130 million Nigerians are now classified as multidimensionally poor.
On security, he described the current period as particularly challenging, pointing to the spread of banditry and terrorism. He also criticised the federal government’s response to violent incidents, including the 2025 Yelwata killings in Benue State, noting what he described as a lack of direct engagement with affected communities during official visits.
The ADC chieftain further warned against what he termed a drift toward “kakistocracy,” suggesting that governance standards are deteriorating. He urged greater accountability, especially on commitments such as improving electricity supply.
Addressing internal party issues, Aregbesola defended the leadership of David Mark as ADC chairman, stating that due process was followed and that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was duly notified of party decisions.
He also accused INEC of bias and alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is uneasy about the ADC’s growing influence as an opposition platform. He called on the international community to monitor the electoral body’s actions.
