There’ll be Two-Day Blackout in Three Nigerian States – TCN

Electricity consumers in Gombe, along with parts of Yola and Bauchi states, are set to face a two-day power outage this week, as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) undertakes scheduled maintenance on critical power infrastructure.

The TCN revealed that its maintenance crew would conduct preventive maintenance on the bay of its T1A 150MVA, 330/132/33kV transformer bay on Thursday and Friday, January 18 and 19, 2024.

According to Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, the maintenance will last for eight hours each day, running from 9 am to 5 pm. To facilitate the exercise, TCN will transfer the load from T1A 150MVA transformer to its T2A 150MVA transformer in the same substation.

During this transfer period, there will be an interruption of bulk power supply to Jos and Yola Distribution Companies (DisCos) through the T1A transformer. However, Mbah clarified that this interruption would only affect the transfer period and not the entire eight-hour maintenance duration.

“The short outage during the transfer period would affect supply to Gombe and some parts of Yola and Bauchi states only, during the transfer time on both days. TCN will, however, restore bulk power supply through the transformer immediately after the maintenance exercise,” explained Mbah.

The TCN expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to electricity consumers within the affected areas. Previously, on Saturday, the maintenance crew conducted scheduled preventive maintenance on the Jos-Lafia 330kV transmission lines, which had been redundant for some time.
