Suspected Ritualist Arrested for Murdering Two Casual Workers in Bauchi
In a chilling incident that has sent shockwaves through Taranka village, Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi State, a 40-year-old man named Ibrahim Umar has been apprehended on suspicion of killing two casual workers for ritualistic purposes.
Umar, originally from Dankunkuru village in Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State, had come to Taranka village ostensibly for charcoal business. However, during his stay, two individuals mysteriously vanished, raising suspicions among the local residents regarding Umar’s involvement in their disappearance.
The Bauchi State Police Command swiftly responded to the situation, with the Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, confirming the arrest in a statement released on Tuesday.
Wakil revealed that the suspect was taken into custody by diligent police operatives following the report of the incident. The Commissioner of Police in the state, Auwal Muhammad, vehemently condemned the gruesome killings of the two casual workers. He also appealed for calm among the community and cautioned against the dissemination of unverified stories on social media, which could incite chaos.
The horrific incident came to light on September 10, 2023, when Adamu Mohammed of Taranka village reported the disappearance of Kabiru Idi (36) and Bato Ali (18), both residents of the same area. Suspicion quickly fell on Ibrahim Umar, who was believed to have orchestrated the abduction and subsequent disappearance of the two individuals.
Following the report, detectives were dispatched to the scene, leading to Umar’s arrest. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to killing and burying the two casual workers in a shallow grave on the town’s outskirts. A coroner’s examination confirmed the identities of the victims, and a medical practitioner certified their deaths.
The bodies were subsequently handed over to the families for burial according to their respective religious rites. The investigation further revealed that the accused had murdered the two victims in an attempt to gain ritualistic wealth.
During a search of the suspect’s residence, investigators discovered a rubber gallon containing liquid substances suspected to be human blood. The police are continuing their inquiry to unravel the full extent of the accused’s heinous actions.
The Bauchi State Police Commissioner expressed his condolences to the victims’ families, praying for their strength during this difficult time. He declared that such acts would not be tolerated under his watch, emphasizing his commitment to ensuring that justice prevails in this case.
As the investigation unfolds, the public will be kept informed, and the police authorities have underscored the importance of parents, guardians, community leaders, and authoritative figures maintaining strict vigilance over the activities of individuals under their care. Heightened awareness and intervention, when necessary, are crucial steps to prevent such tragedies from recurring in the community.
