Supreme Court Verdict: Abia State to Hold LG Elections Soon, Says Governor Otti
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has announced plans to conduct local government elections across all 17 local government areas of the state in the near future.
In a statement made at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Umuahia, Governor Otti criticized his predecessor for failing to organize local government elections. He noted that this failure allowed the previous administration to dismiss local government officials and withhold funds, centralizing control over financial distributions.
Governor Otti emphasized the significance of local government to grassroots communities, expressing his commitment to restoring democratic processes at the local level. He revealed that the current Mayoral positions held by Transition Committee (TC) Chairmen, who were appointed by his administration, would be dissolved once the elections are conducted.
