SS3 Student Beaten to Death by Classmates Over Alleged Phone Theft
A Senior Secondary School (SS3) student of Government Science and Technical College (GSTC) in Potiskum, Yobe State, has died after reportedly being attacked by fellow students.
The incident occurred on Sunday, February 8, 2026, though the exact circumstances surrounding the assault remain unclear. Reports suggest the student was accused of stealing a phone and was physically assaulted by some classmates.
The deceased was buried the same day in his hometown of Gadaka, Fika Local Government Area.
Confirming the incident, the Yobe State Police Command spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, stated that an investigation has begun to determine the cause of death.
“Yes, we are aware of the incident. Investigation is currently ongoing to ascertain what led to the death of the student,” Abdulkarim said.
A teacher at the school, who requested anonymity, added that students suspected to be involved have been handed over to the police for further investigation.
“The school authorities have handed over the suspected students to the police, and investigation is ongoing,” the teacher said.
