South-East PDP Re-Elects Odefa, Elects New Zonal Executives at Enugu Congress
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-East has elected a new zonal executive, with Chief Ali Odefa re-elected as the Zonal Chairman. The election took place during the party’s zonal congress at Michael Okpara Square in Enugu.
Other officials elected include Hon. James Ugwu as Zonal Secretary, Mrs. Regina Uchebo as Zonal Treasurer, and Hon. Cornelius Okey Ugwu as Zonal Organising Secretary. Madubuike Okoro emerged as Financial Secretary, Engr. Chigozie Igwe as Publicity Secretary, Barr. Dominic Nwankwo as Legal Adviser, and Mrs. Ifeyinwa Arodiogbo as Woman Leader. Godswill Nwanoruo and Ezeanya Augustine were also elected as Zonal Youth Leader and Auditor, respectively. Additionally, six Zonal Ex-officio and five Zonal Ex-Officio members were chosen.
Governor of Enugu State and leader of the party in the South-East, Dr. Peter Mbah, addressed party members, emphasizing that elections should not be seen as personal victories but as opportunities to set a standard for good governance. He reminded members that democracy does not accommodate excuses and urged them to uphold the ideals of the PDP, which he said has always prioritized the welfare of the people. He called for unity and innovation within the party to restore its dominance in the region.
Speaking on behalf of the newly elected executive, Chief Odefa called for party unity, stating that it is the only way to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which he accused of poor governance and policies that have caused hardship.
The congress was attended by several high-ranking party members, including Enugu State Deputy Governor Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly Hon. Uchenna Ugwu, PDP Board of Trustees Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara, Senate Minority Whip Senator Osita Ngwu, Senator Augustine Akobundu, and Hon. Nnoli Nnaji. Others present included Senator Sam Egwu, PDP National Auditor Chief Dan Orbih, local government chairmen, federal and state lawmakers, state party executives, and other delegates from the zone.
