Shekinah Arena Ministry International’s “Urgent 2K” Initiative Sparks Controversy Among Nigerians

The Shekinah Arena Ministry International, a church based in Port-Harcourt, has stirred controversy with its upcoming “Urgent 2K Sunday” initiative aimed at university students. Scheduled for next Sunday, the church plans to provide N2,000 to each undergraduate attending its service.

According to a message shared on the Church Gist Facebook page by the General Overseer, Evang Dr. Gospel Agochukwu, the gesture is exclusively for university students. The message emphasized the importance of every kobo to students and highlighted the practical support the church aims to provide.

The flyer announcing the program mentioned that participants would be screened using their school identity cards. While some Nigerians view this as a genuine evangelism strategy, others dismiss it as a mere ploy to attract new members and a mockery of the gospel.

In the comment section of the Facebook post, opinions diverged. Greatmarvel Precious Samuel criticized the initiative, stating, “This is not the gospel. How did we miss it? Lord Jesus Christ! This is more entertainment and showbiz.” Another commenter, Emma Solo, suggested, “Church strategy to get members,” echoing skepticism about the church’s intentions.

However, Epeters Peter defended the initiative, pointing out, “Some persons followed Jesus because he gave food. At that point, they heard the gospel. Stop criticizing what you don’t know.”

As the controversy unfolds, the Shekinah Arena Ministry International remains steadfast in its mission to reach university students through the “Urgent 2K” initiative, leaving the Nigerian public divided on the true intentions behind the gesture.
