Scores Hospitalized After Free Medical Outreach in Abia
Several individuals have been hospitalized in various healthcare facilities following their participation in a free medical outreach held in Abiriba, Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State.
Abia State Commissioner for Health, Ogbonnaya Uche, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Monday in Umuahia, the state capital. He attributed the incident to suspected adverse drug reactions, emphasizing the government’s concern over the safety of residents.
“Our dedicated healthcare personnel are working assiduously to stabilize and treat affected people,” the statement read. The commissioner also warned against attending unauthorized medical events, highlighting the risks they pose to public health.
The statement revealed that the outreach organizers had failed to obtain the necessary approval from the Ministry of Health. It also cautioned that future violations would result in prosecution, underscoring the government’s commitment to regulating healthcare practices to safeguard residents.
The commissioner encouraged those wishing to contribute to the health sector to collaborate with the ministry through proper channels to ensure safety and compliance with regulations.
