Scores Feared Dead, Many Injured As Vehicle Rams Into Crowd At Calabar Bikers’ Parade
Barely one hour after the flag-off of the Bikers/Exotic Cars Parade, which is part of the events leading to Wednesday’s Carnival in Calabar, about five persons have been feared dead while unconfirmed number of persons have sustained various degrees of injuries.
It was gathered that an unregistered exotic vehicle which took part in the event lost control and rammed into spectators at the Bogobiri axis of the carnival route, inhabited mainly by the Hausa/Fulani natives.
It was also gathered that the affected persons were rushed to Navy Refrence hospital, Calabar.
The untoward event brought the event to an abrupt end.
As at the time of filling this report, there were reported skirmishes at the Bogobiri community by the angry Hausas/Fulani natives, thereby forcing law enforcement agencies to use tear gas to disperse the angry crowd
Eyewitnesses blamed the accident on poor crowd control management.
