Rivers PDP Threatens to Expel FCT Minister Nyesom Wike Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities
The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a stern warning to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, threatening to expel him from the party over alleged anti-party activities. This follows the ongoing political crisis in the state, which the party claims is being fueled by Wike’s actions.
Speaking at a press conference in Port Harcourt, the acting chairman of the PDP in Rivers State, Hon. Chukwuemeka Robinson Ewor, accused the former governor of consistently acting against the interests of the party. He alleged that Wike’s involvement in the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, under the All Progressives Congress (APC), is a clear sign that his loyalty has shifted away from the PDP.
Ewor stated that the party’s organs—ranging from the National Executive Committee (NEC) to ward-level structures—would not hesitate to take disciplinary action against Wike, which could include suspension or outright expulsion. He stressed that Wike’s conduct has brought the party into disrepute, adding that “no man can serve two masters.”
The PDP also dismissed the Supreme Court ruling concerning the status of Martins Amaewhule and 26 other lawmakers, insisting that they are no longer members of the party. According to Ewor, Amaewhule and his colleagues had openly defected to the APC, citing their announcement on the floor of the Rivers State House of Assembly and affidavits sworn at an Abuja High Court. He argued that despite the court’s ruling, the reality on ground confirms their defection.
The party maintained that the lawmakers’ continued role in the Assembly contradicts the Supreme Court’s judgment, and called on them to act in a manner that would benefit the state. Ewor also accused the court of granting reliefs that were not sought, stating that even President Tinubu had acknowledged the lawmakers’ defection.
Despite the tension, the Rivers PDP praised Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his commitment to implementing the Supreme Court’s judgment in a way that serves the interests of the people of Rivers State. The party called on the lawmakers and Wike to embrace peace and allow the governor to focus on delivering good governance.
