Prospective Cult Member Dies During Initiation Ritual
A young man has died during a cult initiation ceremony in Auchi, located in the Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State. The incident, which occurred over the weekend, is believed to have followed strenuous physical drills conducted as part of the initiation process.
The deceased, identified as Prosper, was said to have voluntarily sought membership in the Aye confraternity. He reportedly approached a relative named Cosmos, who is alleged to be a senior member of the group. Cosmos is believed to have facilitated Prosper’s introduction to other members but did not participate in the initiation itself.
Sources revealed that Prosper collapsed and died during the process. Cult members later informed Cosmos that Prosper had consumed hard drugs prior to the event and fainted during the initiation.
Edo State Police Command spokesperson, CSP Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident, stating that the victim slumped and was rushed to a hospital in nearby Jattu, where he was declared dead on arrival. He also confirmed that one suspect has been arrested in connection with the case and remains in custody as investigations continue.
