Businessman Shot Dead While Escaping Suspected Kidnappers in Edo
A businessman identified as JuseWayne has been killed after gunmen allegedly attempted to abduct him in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State.
Witness accounts indicate that the attackers intercepted him on Saturday while he was running an errand within the community. During the encounter, he reportedly tried to escape, prompting the assailants to open fire. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Residents said the attackers fled immediately after the shooting, leaving him at the scene. He was later taken to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
Videos circulating online captured reactions from locals, some of whom described the victim as the owner of a food business in Ekpoma. According to these accounts, he had recently married and welcomed a child. Family members were said to have planned a dedication ceremony for the child on Sunday.
As of the time of reporting, the Edo State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident. Attempts to reach the police spokesperson were unsuccessful.
The killing has added to ongoing concerns about security in parts of Edo State, where residents have reported repeated incidents involving armed groups.
