“President Tinubu Has Given Us a Charge to Bring Anambra to the Centre, and That’s What We’ll Do” – Ukachukwu
The All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate for the November 8 Anambra governorship election, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, has declared his commitment to securing victory for the party in the state. Ukachukwu made this declaration while speaking to State House correspondents after receiving the APC flag from President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa. Senator Uche Ekwunife, his running mate, was also present at the presentation.
Ukachukwu said President Tinubu had tasked him and Ekwunife with the responsibility of bringing Anambra “to the centre,” signaling the President’s expectation that the state align with the ruling party. “He has given us a charge to go and bring Anambra to the centre, and that’s what we’re going to do. Anambra cannot continue to be a one-party system,” he said. Ukachukwu added that the President was impressed with the enthusiasm shown by party members during his recent visit to the state.
The APC candidate expressed confidence in the party’s chances, citing his past influence in Anambra politics. “I was a former senatorial candidate of APGA. I left APGA with all my supporters to join APC,” he stated. He noted that other parties, including Labour Party and YPP, had joined forces with APC, alongside over 80 support groups, further strengthening the party’s base in the state.
Ukachukwu dismissed the notion that the ruling party in the state, APGA, held an unshakable grip, arguing that history has shown incumbents can be defeated. “It’s not the first time an incumbent will be losing an election; it happened in Zamfara, in Imo and other places. Even in Anambra too, so it’s not new to us,” he said.
