Presidency Clarifies Correct Title of President Tinubu
The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation has issued a formal clarification on the official title of President Bola Tinubu following repeated errors in media reports and public communications.
The clarification was contained in a statement released on Thursday by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the SGF, Yomi Odunuga.
According to Odunuga, the statement was personally signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, who urged media organisations and other institutions to verify official titles before publication.
Akume stated that the correct designation of the President is: “His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
The SGF said the reminder became necessary after an error was identified in a national newspaper publication dated Wednesday, May 7, 2026.
He noted that such mistakes could be avoided through proper verification from official government channels.
