PDP’s 99th NEC Meeting Set to Begin After Controversies, Delays

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to hold its long-delayed 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting today at Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja, following a series of controversies and postponements.

The meeting, initially scheduled to start by 12pm, has been pushed back to 2pm amid ongoing logistical adjustments.

The delays came after the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) revoked the PDP’s land title over 19 years of unpaid ground rent, amounting to about N7.6 million. The sealing of the party’s presidential campaign office sparked tension and uncertainty within the party.

In a move that helped ease the situation, President Bola Tinubu intervened by granting a 14-day grace period for the PDP and other affected parties to clear outstanding payments. This intervention paved the way for the NEC meeting to finally proceed.

The NEC, composed of the PDP National Chairman, members of the National Working Committee, state governors, former presidents and vice presidents, and other key leaders, is expected to discuss critical party issues and prepare strategies for upcoming elections.

As the meeting begins, all eyes are on the party’s leadership to see how these challenges will be addressed. Further updates will follow.
