Police Rescue 7-Year-Old Girl Abducted by Mother’s Customer in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has successfully located and rescued a missing seven-year-old girl, Mercy Akande, who was abducted in Sango-Ota by a customer of her mother. The rescue occurred in the Ayetoro area of the state.

The incident was confirmed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, on her X handle (formerly Twitter) on Sunday. According to reports, Mercy’s mother, a POS operator, had identified a male customer as the primary suspect in her daughter’s disappearance.

The abduction unfolded when the customer, described as a regular visitor to the shop, bought food for the child and later sent her on an errand to buy a sachet of water. While the girl was on her way back, the suspect intercepted her and vanished before the mother, who was busy attending to other customers, realized what had happened.

In a swift operation, the police’s anti-kidnapping team tracked down Mercy in Ayetoro and arrested those responsible for the crime.

In a statement, Odutola confirmed the success of the operation, noting, “Suspected Abduction: 29th December 2024 Mercy Akande found in Ayetoro in Ogun State by an anti-kidnapping team of Ogun State Police Command. CP Lanre Ogunlowo will give more press briefing tomorrow, 30th December 2024, to the media.”

Further details regarding the suspects and the investigation are expected to be disclosed in the upcoming briefing.
