“I Deserve to Die, But Before You Kill Me, Give Me Food” – Serial Killer Begs Police
A suspected serial killer, Philip Ogunnaike, arrested in Ogun State, has pleaded for the death penalty for himself and his accomplices. Ogunnaike, who is linked to the deaths of at least three young women, made the plea during an interrogation video released by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola.
In the video, Ogunnaike claimed he was coerced into killing by an individual named Danjuma and others who initiated him into the notorious Eiye cult. Expressing remorse, Ogunnaike urged the police to apprehend his accomplices and stated his preference for immediate execution when brought to trial.
“If we get to court, they should not bother hearing our case; they should just go and kill us. But before they kill us, they should give me food, because those I killed may have just eaten before I killed them,” he stated.
Ogunnaike, 29, was arrested last week on suspicion of murdering three women, including 18-year-old Akinsanya Habibat, in different locations across Ogun State. The police reported that his method involved luring victims to isolated forests, binding them, and then strangling them before stealing their phones. The police also revealed that Ogunnaike had previously escaped from the Ibara Correctional Centre two years ago, while facing charges related to armed robbery.
Those reportedly killed by Ogunnaike include Akinsanya Habibat (18), Abigail Dina (22), and Mary Ogunyemi (23). The suspect led police to the locations where the bodies of the victims were discovered. One of the most chilling incidents involved Ogunnaike and an accomplice who lured his neighbor’s daughter, Ogunyemi, to a forest, where they strangled her after stealing her phone.
On July 3, 2024, Ogunnaike allegedly helped abduct 23-year-old Mary Ogunyemi while she was out purchasing fruit. Her body was later discovered in a bush after Ogunnaike demanded a ransom from her family. Similarly, the suspect confessed to killing Akinsanya on August 30, 2024, after luring her to her father’s farmland, where he strangled her and demanded ransom from her parents.
Ogun State Police Commissioner, Abiodun Alamutu, confirmed that a manhunt is ongoing to capture Ogunnaike’s accomplices, particularly Danjuma, who is believed to have played a key role in the killings. The police have vowed to bring all involved to justice.
