Police Release Actress Doris Ogala as Pastor Chris Okafor Allegedly Kneels Down to Seek Peace

The Nigeria Police Force has released Nollywood actress Doris Ogala in Lagos following her rearrest in Abuja shortly after she was granted bail, according to a report by SaharaReporters.

Ogala was reportedly brought to Lagos by officers from the Zone 2 Command. Sources cited in the report said tensions rose during the operation when her lawyer, Marshal Abubakar, attempted to document the police action. The officers allegedly attacked him, confiscated his mobile phones and proceeded to escort the actress on a flight to Lagos.

Sahara Reporters further reported that Ogala’s release was secured through the intervention of a Take It Back Movement (TIB) coordinator, Jamiu Towolawi, popularly known as Jharmo, who stood as her surety.

Following her release, Pastor Chris Okafor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministries, also known as Grace Nation Liberation City, met with the actress and appealed for peace. According to the report, the cleric, who had been linked to the circumstances surrounding her arrest, allegedly knelt down to plead with Ogala to allow reconciliation and end the dispute.

A source quoted by Sahara Reporters said Towolawi arrived at the Zone 2 Command in Onikan to demand Ogala’s immediate release. The source added that Pastor Okafor later arrived at the command and held a private meeting with the actress that lasted nearly an hour. The meeting reportedly took place in a secluded area without third-party involvement.

After the meeting, the police allegedly released Ogala on health grounds, with Towolawi serving as her surety. Sahara Reporters also reported that the police returned the two mobile phones earlier seized from Abubakar. Although officers allegedly requested that a video of the arrest be deleted because they could not access the phones, the condition was rejected, and Ogala was allowed to leave.

The development followed Ogala’s arrest on Saturday during a live-streamed interview, an incident that unfolded in real time when the programme host interrupted to inform her that police officers had arrived at her residence. The arrest came amid a series of allegations made by the actress against Pastor Okafor over an alleged breach of a promise to marry her.

Ogala had earlier accused the cleric of reneging on a commitment to marry her and briefly shared, then deleted, an image she claimed showed him in a private bedroom setting. She alleged the image was taken after a sexual encounter and warned that a full video would be released.

Through her lawyers, Synergy Law Partners, Ogala issued a demand letter dated December 16, 2025, seeking N1 billion in aggravated damages from Pastor Okafor over what her legal team described as a broken marital promise. The letter, addressed to the cleric’s Ojodu Berger residence, warned of legal action if the demand was not met within 21 days.

The lawyers stated that the relationship allegedly began in 2017 when Ogala approached Pastor Okafor for pastoral counselling during a period of emotional vulnerability. They claimed the promise of marriage was clear and consistent, and was reinforced by actions such as introductions to family members and joint appearances at family functions.

The letter further claimed that photographs, videos, WhatsApp messages and banking records exist to support what the legal team described as Ogala’s legitimate expectation of marriage. The actress also alleged that she relied on the promise to her detriment, including leaving a troubled marriage and abandoning reconciliation efforts.

While acknowledging that marriage cannot be legally compelled, her lawyers argued that the law provides remedies for breach of promise and aggravated harm.
