‘How can you accuse me of murder and still want to marry me?’ — Chris Okafor questions Doris Ogala
Chris Okafor, founder of Mountain of Liberty and Miracle Ministry, has responded to allegations made by actress Doris Ogala amid a public dispute that followed news of his recent marriage to Pearl Okafor.
The disagreement began after a video of Okafor’s engagement surfaced online. Ogala claimed she had been in a relationship with the pastor since 2017, alleging that he persuaded her to leave her previous marriage and repeatedly promised to marry her.
She later demanded that Okafor either fulfil the alleged promise or pay financial compensation, placing her claim at N1 billion for breach of promise.
Ogala also accused Okafor of being involved in the poisoning and death of her brother.
Despite the allegations, Okafor proceeded with his wedding, holding both traditional and white ceremonies.
In an earlier reaction, he described the backlash as a reaction to his marital happiness. Days later, he publicly apologised to Ogala, acknowledging that they had a past relationship.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Okafor questioned what he described as contradictions in the claims against him.
“The same person who accused me of murder is the same person saying I want to abandon her and marry someone else. How could she want to marry someone who allegedly killed her brother?” he said.
He added that there were “many unanswered questions and glaring lies” surrounding the matter.
Okafor also addressed allegations from a woman identified as Chi Okafor, who claims to be his biological daughter, and from his former wife, who accused him of abandoning his children and attempting to defile one of them.
He denied knowing Chi and alleged that his former wife had engaged a blogger to seek financial support from him.
“The allegations were coming from a woman I never met. Then my former wife joined and alleged that I tried to defile one of our daughters,” he said.
He further claimed that the same individuals later approached a blogger to request about N80 million for school fees and living expenses abroad.
Okafor said the controversy escalated after details of his remarriage were leaked by his wedding planner, which he believes prompted multiple parties to make claims.
He referenced his divorce proceedings, which he said were concluded in 2014 at an Ikeja court on grounds of infidelity, violence, lack of love and irreconcilable differences. He noted that the current allegations were not raised during the case and that he was granted custody of the children.
“If these claims were true, they would have come up during the divorce proceedings. The court awarded me custody, and no such issues were raised,” he said.
