Police Provide Further Details on Alleged Notorious Abuja Kidnapper, Chinaza Philip
The FCT Police Command has revealed additional information about the notorious Abuja kidnapper, Chinaza Philip Okoye Michael. The suspect, previously arrested for similar offenses in November 2023, was apprehended again last Thursday during an operation in Kaduna.
According to Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, Chinaza Philip and his gang were intercepted while transporting a kidnapping victim from Abuja to Kano. The victim, who had been abducted along with his Hilux van, was reportedly en route to Kano when police operatives, acting on intelligence, successfully intercepted the criminals at a petrol station in Kaduna.
Adejobi disclosed that Chinaza Philip, previously known as Chinaza Philip Okoye Michael, and his accomplices had faced charges in November 2023 at the FCT High Court in Kwali, Abuja. However, the suspects were granted bail, and Chinaza Philip reverted to committing more serious crimes while awaiting trial.
The recent arrest took place following a distress call about a four-man kidnap gang abducting a man in Abuja alongside his Hilux van. Police intelligence revealed that the gang intended to transport the victim through Kano to Kaduna. The victim was eventually rescued, and the Hilux van recovered, while Chinaza Philip was apprehended.
The FCT Police Command, in a statement issued on Friday, confirmed the arrest and noted that Chinaza Philip was now in police custody. The suspect was handed over by the Kaduna Police Command on Friday, 19th January, 2024.
This development underscores the challenges law enforcement faces in dealing with repeat offenders and highlights the need for a robust legal system to prevent such criminals from returning to criminal activities after being granted bail. The FCT Police Command assures the public that more details will be communicated soon as investigations continue.
