The Officers’ Barracks of the Warri Area Command in Delta State has been gripped by tension as a horrifying incident unfolded on the evening of Friday, September 22, 2023. A young man, identified as Destiny Ogbantu, allegedly stabbed his neighbor, Onyebuchi Emeka, to death following a heated altercation, sending shockwaves through the community.

According to witnesses at the scene, the dispute escalated rapidly, leading Destiny Ogbantu to lose his temper. He reportedly rushed to his father’s apartment within Block D of the Warri Barracks, retrieved a knife and a dagger, and descended to confront Onyebuchi Emeka. The pursuit continued across various blocks until tragically ending in a gutter, where Onyebuchi was repeatedly stabbed, both in the back and deep into the chest.

Horrifyingly, the incident was witnessed by numerous residents of the barracks, including the mother and siblings of the alleged assailant. Onyebuchi Emeka was swiftly rushed to a nearby private hospital by family members, but due to the severity of his injuries and the significant blood loss, he was pronounced dead shortly after admission.

In a shocking turn of events, Destiny Ogbantu’s mother is said to have fled the barracks with all her children, including the suspect, upon realizing the gravity of her son’s actions. As of the time of this report, their whereabouts remain unknown.

Inspector Ogbantu, the father of the suspect, has been apprehended by the police, seemingly held accountable as a proxy for his son’s actions and is currently in police custody pending further investigation.

In response to this tragic incident, the Delta State chapter of the Nigerian Civil Rights Council has intervened. The group, led by Comrade Ojumude Bishop, organized a protest along with other members, urging the Nigeria Police Force not to let this matter be swept under the carpet. They demanded justice for the slain young man, Onyebuchi Emeka, and called for Inspector Ogbantu to cooperate fully with the authorities, ensuring his son faces the full consequences of his actions without any attempts to manipulate the facts.

As of the time of this report, the Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State Command, Bright Edafe, was unavailable for comments on the incident. The community remains in shock as investigations into this tragic event continue.
