Photos: Nigerian Army Rescues Retired Colonel in Plateau Abduction
Nigerian Army troops have successfully rescued retired Colonel Ajanaku, who was abducted from his home in Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State.
According to sources, the retired officer was taken at approximately 12:45 a.m. on January 5 from his residence opposite the Salvation Army Church along Rukuba Road. Security forces quickly responded, tracking the kidnappers through the Wildlife Park while intensifying search operations around caves and rocky areas suspected to harbor criminals.
The abductors reportedly contacted the officer’s wife, demanding a ransom of N200 million and threatening to kill him if rescue attempts continued. Security personnel, however, shifted to covert operations, leading to Col. Ajanaku’s release around 5:30 p.m. the same day near the Rafiki axis of Bassa LGA.
The retired officer is currently receiving medical attention at a military facility and will be debriefed to aid ongoing investigations. Troops remain active in the surrounding forests, pursuing the kidnappers.
