Peter Obi is Nigeria’s Donald Trump – Tinubu’s Aide
In a recent statement, Temitope Ajayi, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Bola Tinubu, drew a striking comparison between Nigeria’s 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Ajayi shared his thoughts on X.com (formerly Twitter) following the U.S. presidential debate between Trump and Democratic candidate Vice President Kamala Harris, which aired on Tuesday. Ajayi stated, “Peter Obi is the Nigerian version of Donald Trump. Like Obi, Trump uses highly negative descriptions about the country he aims to lead again, all to energize his base and make a point.”
Ajayi’s remarks came after a heated exchange between Trump and Harris during their debate. The two clashed on numerous issues, including immigration and abortion rights, in what is shaping up to be a closely fought U.S. election.
Highlighting the debate’s outcome, Ajayi added, “Kamala Harris prosecuted Trump very well in their first face-to-face debate. Kamala convincingly won the debate, leaving no doubt about her capacity.”
Ajayi further emphasized that Harris strategically exposed Trump’s weaknesses, with the former president falling into several of her debate traps. Fact-checking reports noted that Trump made 33 false claims throughout the 90-minute debate, compared to only one misstatement from Harris.
In one of the more controversial moments, Trump claimed that immigrants in Springfield were eating pets of U.S. residents, a statement swiftly debunked by local authorities. Nevertheless, Trump doubled down on his assertions.
As the U.S. 2024 elections draw nearer, tensions remain high, with both Trump and Harris vying for influence in a polarized political landscape. The election is slated for Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
