Rivers LG Polls: “Statement Not from State Working Committee” – LP Dismisses Chieftain’s Allegations Against Fubara

In the lead-up to the October 5 local government elections, the Rivers State chapter of the Labour Party has disassociated itself from claims made by Prince Favor Reuben, a prominent party member. Reuben had alleged that the Action Peoples Party (APP) was engaging in procedural irregularities in its candidate selection process. He accused APP of operating as a “social club” and alleged that Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Chief of Staff Eddison Ehie, and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were involved in manipulating the APP’s candidate selection from the Government House in Port Harcourt.

Reuben’s claims suggested that such activities constituted anti-party actions and compromised the electoral process’s integrity. However, Gogo Wellington, the Labour Party’s Publicity Secretary in Rivers State, has urged the public to disregard Reuben’s statements. Wellington emphasized that only statements issued by the Labour Party’s State Working Committee or executive council should be considered official.

In an interview, Wellington praised the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) for its professionalism and reassured the public of the Labour Party’s positive relationship with the commission. He expressed confidence in RSIEC’s ability to oversee the election process impartially and emphasized that the Labour Party does not endorse unsubstantiated allegations.

Wellington stated, “We encourage the public to disregard any statements that do not come from the State Working Committee or the executive council of our party. Our relationship with RSIEC is strong, and we trust their capacity to monitor all parties and ensure compliance with electoral regulations. It is not our place to address claims without proof.”
