Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the last election, has taken his quest to challenge the election results to the highest legal echelon by filing an appeal at the Supreme Court. The appeal, comprising a staggering 51 grounds, comes as a response to his dissatisfaction with the decision handed down by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, which had earlier dismissed his case.
Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, originally approached the Tribunal with the goal of being declared the rightful winner of the February 25 Presidential Election. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had previously declared Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the victor of the polls.
Notably, this development occurs amid the ongoing legal challenges mounted by both Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the declaration made by INEC. Despite the Tribunal’s decision to uphold Bola Tinubu’s victory, both Obi and Atiku remain steadfast in their pursuit of justice through the judicial system.
With his petition now submitted to the Supreme Court, Peter Obi has set in motion a process that could potentially reshape the political landscape, as the nation awaits the apex court’s deliberations on the matter.
