Heavy Security Presence in Kano City as Governorship Tribunal Prepares for September 20 Judgement

Asari Dokubo’s Supporters Threaten Disruption if Presidential Tribunal Ousts Tinubu

In anticipation of the impending judgement by the Governorship Elections Petition Tribunal, Kano City is under tight security measures. Quick-response armed security personnel have been deployed in and around the historic city, ensuring the safety of the proceedings set to take place on Wednesday.

Authorities have issued a stern public warning, advising individuals without legitimate business in the vicinity of the election tribunal, particularly the Bompai area, to stay away.

Recall that a substantial show of force has been demonstrated by a joint presence of military and police operatives within the state, signaling the seriousness with which security is being upheld.

The tribunal had previously scheduled Wednesday, September 20, as the date to announce its judgement regarding the petition filed by the All Progressive Congress (APC), which challenges the election of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

This crucial decision date was officially communicated by the tribunal in a hearing notice sent to both parties involved.

Despite the heavy security presence, Kano City remains notably calm and peaceful. Supporters of both the APC and NNPP are eagerly awaiting the tribunal’s verdict, which carries significant implications for the political landscape.

Notably, supporters of the ruling NNPP have engaged in a week-long prayer session, fervently seeking divine intervention in hopes of a favorable outcome.

To preempt any potential disturbances or disorder, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usuani Gumel, took the initiative to convene a peace parley with leaders from both political parties. He emphasized the importance of accepting the tribunal’s judgement in good faith and urged all parties to uphold peace and stability within the state.
