“People Who Demand Electronic Transmission of Election Results, Yet Their Membership Portal Was Flooded With Fake Names and Fictitious Identities” — VP Shettima Takes Swipe at ADC, Opposition

Vice President Kashim Shettima has criticised opposition parties, accusing them of relying on misinformation and hypocrisy in Nigeria’s political space.

Shettima made the remarks while representing Bola Ahmed Tinubu at an interfaith breaking of fast held at the State House for both Ramadan and Lent.

During his address, the vice president targeted the African Democratic Congress (ADC), particularly over its push for electronic transmission of election results.

“The same people who were adamant that we must have electronic transmission of votes opened their portal for membership registration, and it was flooded with fake names and fictitious identities,” Shettima said.

He went further, accusing the broader opposition of building their strategy on false narratives. Quoting former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, he added: “Truth is so precious that it must be surrounded by a bodyguard of lies. Lies, lies, lies — that is what is driving the opposition in this country.”

Speaking to political and religious leaders, Shettima urged APC members to stay united as political activities intensify ahead of upcoming elections.

“The political season is around the corner. We are all political actors. We have to sell our government. We have to stand behind our administration,” he said.

He also maintained that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is in a stronger political position than in 2023 and that recent defections to the party were voluntary.

“Nobody is coercing the governors of Rivers, Delta, Kano or any other state to join the APC. It is at their own volition because they have seen the light,” Shettima added.
