Senate Shake-Up: ADC Takes Minority Whip Position

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has taken over the position of Senate Minority Whip following changes in party alignments within the upper chamber.

Tony Nwoye was announced as the new Minority Whip after the resignation of Osita Ngwu, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The announcement was made during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who said the nomination came through a letter from the Senate Minority Caucus.

The development reflects a shift in the composition of opposition parties in the Senate. The ADC now holds nine seats, surpassing the PDP’s five, and has effectively become the largest opposition bloc.

The plenary session also recorded additional defections. Senator Anthony Siyako Yaro of Gombe South left the PDP for the APC, citing internal disputes within his former party. Similarly, Ahmed Aliyu Wadada of Nasarawa West, elected under the Social Democratic Party, confirmed his move to the APC, attributing his decision to leadership challenges within the party.
