PDP’s Reconciliation Chairman in Gombe Dumps Party, Joins ADC — “Even the Peacemaker Has Left”

Air Vice Marshal Shehu Adamu Fura (retd.), Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Reconciliation Committee in Gombe State, has officially resigned from the party and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC). His resignation was formally communicated in a letter dated July 3, 2025, addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Pantami Ward, Gombe Local Government Area.

Fura, a respected figure in Gombe’s political scene, previously contested the PDP governorship primaries in 2023, where he placed third. His exit from the party is seen as a major blow, especially as he served in the role meant to mend internal divisions—highlighting the depth of PDP’s internal crisis.

In his resignation letter, Fura stated that the decision followed deep personal reflection and wide consultations. He explained that his move to the ADC was motivated by a desire to contribute more meaningfully to democratic values and good governance through a new political platform.

He described his time in the PDP as one of valuable experience, noting the insight gained during the 2023 primaries and his leadership of the reconciliation committee tasked with fostering party unity. Despite his efforts to hold the party together, Fura’s departure underscores ongoing fractures within the PDP in Gombe.

Expressing gratitude for the support he received, particularly from members of Pantami Ward, he thanked the party’s leadership and wished them well in future endeavors. His exit—symbolic and strategic—raises serious questions about the PDP’s stability as even its chief reconciler has now chosen to walk away.
