JUST IN: INEC Updates Website to Reflect Mark-Led ADC Leadership After Supreme Court Ruling
Nigeria’s electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has restored the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by David Mark on its official website, following a ruling by the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
As of Thursday evening, INEC’s portal lists Mark as national chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as national secretary. The update reverses an earlier move in early April when the commission removed the Mark-led executive, citing a decision of the Court of Appeal of Nigeria tied to the party’s leadership dispute.
The ADC has been split by competing claims, with a faction led by Mark and another backed by Nafiu Bala, a former national vice-chairman, each asserting control.
Earlier on Thursday, the Supreme Court directed Mark to return to the Federal High Court of Nigeria for further proceedings on the dispute. In a unanimous decision delivered by a five-member panel headed by Mohammed Garba, the court criticised the appellate court’s earlier order that parties maintain the status quo.
Following the judgment, INEC reinstated the party’s leadership page, now displaying a full executive list aligned with the Mark-led faction.
