PDP NWC Considers Disciplinary Action Against Orbih, Others Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is contemplating disciplinary measures against members of its Edo State chapter for alleged anti-party activities.

Reports from Abuja indicate that the party leadership has received numerous petitions against Dan Orbih, the National Vice Chairman (South South), and some of his associates.

A party insider, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated, “The party values cooperation from all factions in the state, but Orbih and his circle have shown continuous disregard for our collective interests. Although the State Chapter once announced his expulsion, we intervened to mediate, but he and a few others have refused to see reason.”

Sources suggest that the party plans to issue an official query to members campaigning against its candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo. Those who fail to provide satisfactory explanations will face the party’s disciplinary committee.

Concerns have also been raised about Orbih’s conduct, particularly after he was seen celebrating a mistaken media report regarding a case involving the party.

“We will not take any punitive action without allowing him to defend himself as our constitution stipulates,” another party source said. “We will follow due process and be fair to all parties. We have an election to win and must deal with these distractions swiftly.”

Recently, the Edo State PDP Youth League called for sanctions against Orbih, who appeared in a viral video celebrating a court ruling that allegedly nullified the party’s primary.

Orbih’s critics argue that his actions violate Sections 58 (1) (a) (b) (f) and (j) of the PDP Constitution (amended in 2017). They question whether he can continue to hold his position given his conduct. Section 59 (1) of the PDP Constitution outlines possible sanctions, including expulsion, for such offenses.
