PDP Loses Three House of Reps Members to APC
Three members of the House of Representatives elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The lawmakers—Hon. Ajilesoro Taofeek Abimbola and Hon. Omirin Olusanya from Osun State, along with Hon. Marcus Onobu from Edo State—announced their defection during Wednesday’s plenary session.
Their defection letters were read aloud by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas on the House floor. Each lawmaker cited ongoing internal crises and unresolved divisions within the PDP as key reasons for their decision to leave the party. They also expressed their desire to align with President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to reposition the Nigerian economy.
APC National Secretary, Senator Suraj Ajibola, also from Osun State, was present in the chamber along with other party officials to witness the formal switch of allegiance.
Following the announcement, Minority Leader Hon. Kingsley Chinda urged Speaker Abbas to declare the defectors’ seats vacant, citing constitutional requirements. The Speaker, however, acknowledged the point without further comment.
